About KJEM

Northwest Public Broadcasting is in the jazz business, with a third program stream airing on its newest radio station, KJEM.

Launched on November 1, 2013, KJEM serves the thriving community of jazz fans and musicians 24 hours a day on 89.9 FM in Pullman and Moscow, and available worldwide through online streaming.

NWPB’s jazz service is heard in Pullman and Moscow on 89.9 FM, and online. The 19th radio station in the Northwest Public Broadcasting network, KJEM is made possible through a generous gift from cellular entrepreneur Bruce R. McCaw, son of broadcast pioneer and WSU alumnus J. Elroy McCaw. Honoring J. Elroy’s passion for community-focused stations, KJEM – whose call letters are derived from his initials – will include broadcast performances by students of jazz at the region’s universities, area high schools and middle schools.

Unlike the other NWPB radio stations, KJEM is run by students, but under the guidance of NWPB’s professional management team. It is part of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication’s “teaching hospital” model, which provides students with hands-on training in real-world environments.
